One of the biggest challenges of the 21st century is climate change. The accumulation of green house gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) from different sources in the atmospheres promotes global warming (IPCC, 2007). The major source of green house gases in the atmosphere is the burning of fossil fuels that is estimated to contribute about 80%. Land use and land cover change especially forest deforestation and degradation contribute the remaining percentage (Stern, 2007).

The community of Kagera region is engaged in different developmental activities such as fishing, farming, livestock keeping, businesses, construction and industrial works that are direct linked to the Environment. While doing these activities, they apply malpractices like, burning bushes while clearing the lands for farming, trees cutting and shifting cultivation.   Others include; pollution through the use of chemicals in fishing, burning of charcoal, brick burning,  firewood whereby there is no sustainable of forest resources and many other malpractices as   they lack awareness on how to do their activities with conservation and protection of environment in mind. However, the above said impacts of climate change are either obvious or existing of possible to happen in Kagera Region and Tanzania at large.
